This time of year typically brings festivities that tempt you to indulge in extra helpings, snack on seasonal treats and skip your workouts. Here are some tips to help you stay on track and avoid the “Seasonal Seven” (the average weight most people will gain between Thanksgiving and the New Year.)
• PLAN IT. Before the holidays sneak up on you, create a plan for incorporating fitness and good nutrition into your daily routine. Mark your workouts on your calendar and consider them just as important as any other event.
• TEMPTATION HAPPENS. Eat a healthy snack before you attend that holiday party and reduce the cravings for party foods.
• DRINK PLENTY OF H2O. Drinking water before, during and after eating will help you eat less throughout the day.
• GET ENOUGH SLEEP. Parties, shopping, decorating – all can lead you to skimp on the amount of sleep you get each night. Being tired affects how you feel and can make it harder to resist temptations.
•"JUST DO IT." Don’t put your fitness goals on hold. This is “you” time that will keep you fit, boost your energy level and help you manage the stresses of the season. Only 30 minutes of exercise three times a week at your Fitness USA club will keep you on the right course.
Next Holiday Season, avoid those 3,500 calories, and visit Fitness USA three times each week.
